Lagos – The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jongla Ltd, Mr Riku Salminen, on Tuesday said that the country holds great potential for the new Jongla instant messaging app, which is being introduced into the Nigerian market.
Salminen told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview that the Jongla app would open up new instant free messaging to people living and working in Africa.
NAN reports that Jongla is a Finnish-¬based company specialising in device and platform independent mobile messaging.
Salminen said: “We have made instant messaging possible for people who don’t have high-end smartphones and live and work in places with limited access to broadband.
“We chose Nigeria to launch Jongla in Africa because we know that many people here are frustrated with the current user experience that most of the IM apps offer.’’
According to the CEO, Jongla enables users to send and receive unlimited free text messages, stickers, photos, videos and funny voice messages over the internet, using low-speed Wi-Fi networks.
He explained that phones with 4G, 3G, EDGE and GPRS have full access to the Jongla app.
The CEO said that the app was user-friendly and less expensive to download, since one could save about 70 megabytes of data at every download.
He mentioned that through the Jongla app, instant messages could be sent to people on facebook and WhatsApp.
Salminen noted that Nigerians had great taste for new technology, adding that one does not need an expensive phone to download the app.
“People here are very hungry for new technology. Smartphone prices have gone up. The app does not require much memory to download since it can be downloaded on a 2G phone.
The CEO explained that with over 154 million active mobile subscribers and 11 million social media users in Nigeria, the country was the right place to be at the moment.
He added that the Jongla app was designed specifically for emerging markets since it required only 2.5 MB to download on android phones, compared to about 20MB for most other messaging apps.
He numerated key features of the app as free chat with any of your contacts, use of fun filters to voice messages and sharing with friends on a fast and secured app. (NAN)
