Birnin-Magaji – The Emir of Birnin-Magaji in Zamfara, Alhaji Ahmad Umar has commended the state government for awarding contract for the construction of Dauran-Birnin Magaji-Kauran Namoda road.
The emir said on Wednesday in his palace when he received state government committee on voter mobilization that the project would facilitate economic activities in the area.
“We have been suffering due to lack of road over the years, we have been hoping to have this opportunity, until now that we are recording it, we consider it as a great achievement.
“If this project is completed, it will boost socio-economic activities of the area.
“We are happy that our economic activities will improve, we really appreciate the efforts of the state government in improving the lives of our people,’’ Umar said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that contract for the 61 kilometre road was awarded in December 2016 at the cost of N4.3 billion.
On the issue of voter’s mobilisation, the emir assured the committee of total support of the emirate to the exercise.
“We have already directed all districts and ward heads to mobilise people in their areas to participate actively in PVCs collection.
“We will continue to mobile our people not only on PVCs, to participate in any government activity for the development of our area, state and country at large,’’ he added.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi who led the committee, said they were there to inaugurate the local council committee.
Shinkafi said that the state government was not happy with the recent figure given by INEC which placed the state least in the collection of Permanent Voter Cards in the country.
He said based on the INEC report, the state has 60,000 unclaimed PVCs.
Shinkafi said the government would reward any local council that records higher number of PVCs collection in the state.
NAN reports that similar committees were inaugurated in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas.
