Abuja- Mr Jeffrey Botu, Chief Executive Officer Boturn Media, calls on Nigerians to vote for individuals with integrity not political parties as the 2019 election approaches.
Botu made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja, that voting for parties had been the trend in Nigeria and must stop.
He explained that for Nigeria to be great again, citizens must learn to vote individuals not minding the political party they belong to but considering the pedigree of the candidate.
“Since the inception of democracy in 1999 in Nigeria people have been voting for one party or the other.
“And we have realised the party voting has not profited Nigeria in the sense that, people who we vote into power do not meet the mark or expectations of citizens.
“In other words we vote those who are being suggested to us by political parties whereas we can see in other parties which are not really big, individuals who we believe could do better.
“In such situation you find yourself being coerced to vote for the best of the worst.’’
He told NAN that his organisation plans to carry out a campaign to enlighten the public on the need to vote for individual and not political parties before the end of the year.
Botu added that the campaign which would carry a hash tag “I Put Nigeria first’’ would be continuous till the 2019 election takes place.
He said that the campaign would be carried out on all television stations to put out our voice and ensure we criticise everything that we see as wrong.
He stated that people need to know what Nigeria has become in the advent of voting for parties, adding that Nigeria must come first not politicians.
“We want to put a wakeup call on Nigerians, let them wake up and see that Nigeria is not heading the way it should go because we are relying on political parties.
“Let us vote for people not parties, if you vote for individuals who has a long line of things he or she has done to make life better for others, then you can see the person as positive or possible to put in an office where he or she can make a difference like the office of the president.’’
The CEO Boturn Media advised musicians and all entertainers to put Nigeria first when campaigning for politicians and urged them not to sell their conscience but be patriotic.(NAN)
