Beirut – The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) accused Russian planes on Monday of targeting their fighters in Syria’s eastern province of Deir al-Zour.
“The Russian planes have targeted the Syrian Democratic Forces in areas like al-Ezza and Koniko gas field,” Brig. Talal Silo, an SDF spokesman, said.
“There are casualties among ranks from the raids,” Silo added, without specifying the number of dead or wounded.
On Saturday, the SDF captured Koniko, the war-torn country’s largest gas field, from the Islamic State extremist militia.
Both government forces and the Kurdish-led SDF group have each claimed gains against the radical group in Deir al-Zour, which borders Iraq.
