Onitsha (Anambra) – Chief Osita Chidoka, governorship candidate of the United Progressives Party (UPP) in Anambra, says he will modernise markets in the state, with free internet connection to boost commercial activities, if elected.
Chidoka, one of the contenders in the upcoming Nov. 18 governorship poll in Anambra, made the promise when he addressed traders at the Main Market, Onitsha during his campaign on Wednesday.
He said that he would also empower businessmen and young apprentices with interest free loans to enable them operate more profitably.
The UPP flag bearer lamented the deplorable system of the market environment in the state, promising that if elected, his administration would make it more conducive for both buyers and sellers.
“I have seen the extent of neglect you have suffered under previous governments, but my government world reverse the trend.
“We will ensure that markets in Anambra are upgraded to the minimum standard acceptable in the developed world.
“The UPP government under me will modernise the markets in Anambra state; we shall install free Internet connection to boost commercial activities.
“Our traders and apprentices will get government-backed facilities and interest-free loans to apprentices to set up businesses once they complete their trainings,” he said.
The former minister of aviation thanked the traders for their overwhelming support for his candidacy.
He urged them to cast their votes for him on election day.
Chidoka described UPP as the real party for the Igbo as its manifesto took care of the aspirations of the people.
He said that he would ensure that his administration was guided by the party’s pro-people ideology.
“We have suffered marginalisation, injustice, inequity and underdevelopment; our people have been severally dehumanised and they are hurting.
“Time has therefore come for us to put the right foot forward and express our anger through our votes.
” As we vote for our own party, the UPP, we would be sending out a very loud message to the rest of the country that we are determined to legitimately assert ourselves and pursue our cause as a people,” he said.
The candidate had earlier held campaign rallies in Njikoka, Idemili North, Idemili South and Anaocha, where he assured the people that he was in the race to win and reposition Anambra.
Chidoka said that the UPP, with Tiger Head as its symbol, should be their choice in the election.(NAN)
