Another Blow to APC As 2,000 Members Decamp to PDP in Benue State

Two former aides to Governor Samuel Ortom and one-time governorship aspirant under the APC join PDP in Benue state.
– Former minister of Interior, Abba Moro, says the returnees have discovered that they were deceived into joining the ruling party – There are indications that a prominent Abia chieftain and Ngwa land leader, Allen Nwachukwu, is set to dump the PDP for the ruling APC Two thousand members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue state. Included among the decampees are two former aides to the Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom and one-time governorship aspirant under the APC, the Punch reports.
The former aides that joined the PDP are a former senior special assistant on youth mobilisation, Anthony Ada, and a former special assistant to the governor on legal matters, Chris Idu; and Hellen Ode, a gubernatorial aspirant of the APC in the 2015 elections. When receiving the party members, former minister of Interior, Abba Moro, said the returnees had discovered that they were deceived into joining the ruling party. He said: “I said it during the re-run election in this senatorial district when many people I always refer to as ‘Food is ready politician’ left the PDP to join the ruling party.
“But today, they have discovered that the party in power is deceitful, all eyes have seen it with the manner the people of the state have been impoverished and they have decided to leave the comfort zone to come back to suffering zone so that tomorrow will be better.”
On his part, John Ngbede, the state chairman of PDP, said the defectors had realised their mistakes and retraced their steps back to PDP. Meanwhile, there are indications that a prominent Abia chieftain and Ngwa land leader, Allen Nwachukwu, is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). ABN news reports that Chief Nwachukwu’s decision to leave the opposition party could be attributed to a recent defection by his son, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu to the APC. It was gathered that, Ugochukwu was the former chairman of Osisioma Ngwa local government area in Abia state. Sources at the APC secretariat in Umuahia, Abia state capital said Ugochukwu visited the party’s office where he met with some prominent members of the party.Naij.com
