Nigeria Must Block Morocco from ECOWAS By Kelechi Jeff Eme

ABUJA (Sundiata Post) Morocco is desirous of joining ECOWAS because of its atrocities in Western Sahara which it forcefully annexed.

All Maghreb countries, especially Algeria have made it clear that without addressing the Western Sahara question, there will not be consolidated relationship.

Morocco is desirous of using ECOWAS as a springboard to actualize its objective of United Nations Security Council permanent membership. Nigeria is highly interested in that position.

Considering the perpetual cozy relationship between the United States and Morocco, nobody should be in doubt on where their support will tilt towards.

There are three favourite countries based on geography and other parameters. They are Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa. Egypt has already eclipsed Morocco up north.

Morocco has the economic muscle to buy off West African countries against Nigeria. Perhaps only Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Liberia can be trusted to an extent to back Nigeria.

Morocco is a Francophone country and that will definitely be deployed with the assistance of France to ensure the humiliation of Nigeria.

Morocco has a manufacturing industry that’s thriving. The ECOWAS protocols and agreements will make it easier for their products to push ours off the market. Remember that they have 24 hours steady electricity. This means their products will be cheaper.

The foreign ministry and the presidency must not allow this to happen.

Let this not be another Bakassi.
