Port Harcourt   –     Africa’s number one female wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye, has retained her national title in the 57kg category at the Gov. Wike National Wrestling Championships in Port Harcourt.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the wrestler from Ondo state defeated Bayelsa’s Patient Kakada by technical superiority on Wednesday.

Adekuoroye told NAN after the match that she was grateful to God Almighty for allowing her to win the competition in her category.

“I believe I still have work to do on myself, because I will be competing among other players from Africa.

“We will all equally be fighting to beat one another. So, I need to be fully prepared,’’ Adekuoroye said.

NAN reports that the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), prior to the competition, had said that gold medalists at the competition would represent Nigeria at the African Championships.
