Ado-Ekiti – The police, on Wednesday, arraigned two men, Oba Matthew and Ajayi Ayodeji, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged fraud.
The accused, Matthew, 41, Ayodeji, 24, whose addresses were not given, are facing one-count charge of fraud.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 28 at about 9:p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the duo, under a false pretext and with the intent to defraud, obtained N700,000 cash from one Nwaoye Ifeanyi.
Okunade stated that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The accused counsel, Mr Odunayo Okunade, countered the motion of the prosecutor, that urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody to enable him study the case file until the adjourned date.
The counsel argued that since it was a bailable offence, the court should exercise its discretion accordingly and pledged that they would provide reliable sureties if granted bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, in his ruling, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 and each with one surety in like sum.
Adegboye adjourned the case to Dec. 18 for hearing.
