LAGOS – Uruemu Adu, an athletics coach with the Lagos State Grassroots Sports Development, on Friday commended Team Nigeria for their efforts in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Nigeria currently has eight gold, six silver and 11 bronze medals.
Adu told NAN in Lagos that the athletes won so much medals due to the long-term support from various quarter adding that the country could have won more in athletics if the home-based athletes were given adequate support.
“It’s a right step; it shows that if the right support is given to individuals they can go places.

“If you look at our medal prospects they are just from Delta State, why it is so; because Delta has known their potential and supports them.
“And I believe we could have done more if we supported our home-based and it has shown that some of our home-based can do better, with the likes of Esther Ogume doing better, winning gold in long jump.
“It shows that we have potential in this country; that if they are fully supported by their various state governments and individuals and corporate bodies, I think the sky is the limit.’’
