Abuja – The North Central States’ Directors of Sports Forum on Monday advised governments at all levels to give priority to sports development at the grassroots to address unemployment among youths.
The advice is contained in a communiqué issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by Patrick Uwagbale, Coordinator of North Central Zone of State Directors of Sports Forum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the communiqué urged that grassroots sports development be given priority by the state governments to address youth empowerment.
It said the Forum also agreed that inter-zonal under-17 championships be held in six selected sports, namely badminton, half-marathon, table-tennis, judo, taekwondo and track and field.
The Forum also proposed that Plateau Government should be given the hosting and sponsorship of the event slated for July as a prelude to the National Youth Games (NYG).
It said FCT would be given the hosting right for the zonal elimination competitions for the NYG slated to hold at the University of Ilorin in Kwara in August.
