ABUJA – The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Justice, Mr Innocent Lagi, on Thursday advised its lawmakers to “tread with caution” on Gov. Tanko Al-makura impeachment proceedings to avert tyranny.
Lagi, who made the call in a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, urged them to stop “intimidating” people with impeachment powers provided in the constitution.
According to him, the action does not augur well for the wellbeing of the state.
“I do not think that the impeachment procedure as enshrined in the constitution was put in the constitution in bad fate,’’ he said. The commissioner said most of the allegations against the governor were “false and that most of them showed a misunderstanding of the job schedule of the governor and the law generally”.
Lagi maintained that as long the impeachment notice was a constitutional process and being about finding whether there was truly gross misconduct “believe me, the governor will come out clean”.
He said the ministry had looked at the allegations and none would scale through.
“Whatever we do politically, it should be done toward the actualisation of the common good of all.” (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
