Lagos – Lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Babajimi Benson, on Monday told people in his constituency to register and get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) if they had not done so.
He spoke at an empowerment programme he organised in his constituency.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event took place at his constituency office, popularly known as ‘I care’ office, in Ikorodu Lagos State.
NAN reports that he presented some constituents with items such as vulcanizing machines, grinding machines, motorcycles, gas cookers and pots, tricycles, deep freezers, hair dryers and sewing machines.
” What we are witnessing today is the dividends of democracy.
“You have not seen anything yet; everybody should go and collect their PVC because it is very important,” he told the beneficiaries.
Benson assured them that he would contnue to deliver the dividends of democracy and represent the people well.
He, however, appealed to them to ensure they exercise their franchise during elections to have a say in the election of their leaders.
” Our party is responsible and responsive; I thank our party members for their support, giving me the opportunity to represent them at the National Assembly,” he further told them.
Benson highlighted some of his achievements in the constituency as building of eight schools, building of ICT centre and provision of five transformers to needy communities.
He also listed employment of youth and moving motion for construction of Sagamu-Ikorodu Highway among others.
The lawmaker promised to do more to have impact positively on the people.
Also speaking at the event, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, commended Benson for empowering Ikorodu residents.
He said that it would go a long way in reducing unemployment in the community.
Dorothy Mathew, one of the beneficiaries, promised that they would use the materials presented to them judiciously and to create wealth.
“This gift items will make people to be independent now; it will reduce unemployment among the youth in the constituency,” Mathew said.
The beneficiary commended Benson for fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of the constituency and his party supporters.
Another beneficiary, Risikat Oladayo, also thanked the lawmaker for bringing back the dividends of democracy to the people of his constituency.
Some All Progressives Congress top shots in Ikorodu and traditional rulers in the area, among others, witnessed the event.
