Lagos – Fred Edoreh, the Chairman, Lagos Chapter of the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Wednesday described sports as one of the most lucrative global exports.
Edoreh said this in his welcome address at a seminar to mark the annual Lagos SWAN Week held at the National Stadium, Lagos.
“Sports institutions have globalised their activities and events and now projected it to global audience, thereby deriving streams from across borders.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that Nigeria has become a major importer of sports for domestic consumption.
“We cannot stop such imports, but we think it is important that we also show our presence in the global sports market. It is good to receive but it is even better to give.
“While it is incumbent on sports administrators and managers to play an active role toward achieving this, there cannot be any doubt that the media is a major vehicle in this process.
“The questions we want to ask ourselves is: have we even sufficiently captured our domestic sports audience and market? he queried.
Edoreh also demanded to know if there is the need for the country to globalise the nation’s sports in the global sports market.

According to Edoreh, the Lagos SWAN does not have answers to these poses.
“It is to find answers to these posers that SWAN has organised the seminar as part of the SWAN Week, so that participants can help to proffer solutions’’. (NAN)
