Kaduna State came under fresh attack on Sunday as suspected Boko Haram members opened fire on worshipers killing at least one person, and leaving several others injured.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of the day, occurred at at a Catholic Church in Ungwar Pau-Pau in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A worshipper, who survived the attack disclosed that one of the youth guarding the Church was killed while several others injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals in the area.
Kachia experienced a religious clash in May, 2014 following destruction of a fence on a land owned by the state government and used by Muslims in the town as Eid prayer ground. Many people were killed during the incident, while Churches and Mosques were also burnt. [eap_ad_1] In the Sunday attack, the eyewitness told The Nation that, “They came with sophisticated weapons shooting and one person died instantly while several others have been admitted at various hospital. Church Mass was going on when the gunmen came and started shooting”.
Another resident, Mr. Timothy Gomel said, “Military personnel came and asked some of our youth to lead them to where the attackers followed. As I am talking to you, they are combing the bush”.
Even though, Chairman of Kachia Local Government, Peter Agite could not be reached as at the time of filing this report, his deputy, Hon. Alfred Alfred confirmed the incident to newsmen.
Alfred said he was yet to get the figure of casualty of the Church attack. Police in Kaduna is yet to issue an official statement concerning the attack. The command’s spokesman, Aminu Lawan could not be reached.
