The abduction of Mrs. Irouje Omian, wife of a youth leader in Sobe, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo state, along with nine others, comprising five women and four men, has plunged the community into distress.
The victims’ fate remains shrouded in uncertainty as they were seized by kidnappers who intercepted their route between Sobe and the bustling Agric Junction, spiriting them away to an undisclosed location before security forces could intervene.
Speaking under anonymity, a local leader expressed deep concern over the pervasive atmosphere of fear gripping Sobe, fueled by the brazen activities of criminals, particularly kidnappers.
Despite the absence of ransom demands, the families of the abducted individuals await any form of communication from the perpetrators, urging their safe and unconditional release.
This incident exacerbates existing tensions following the tragic loss of 14 lives in Sobe last year, underscoring the urgent need for effective security measures.
Despite the establishment of a mini barracks by the federal government in 2023, aimed at curbing criminal activities, the scourge of kidnapping continues unabated in Sobe and its vicinity.
Efforts to reach Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police Chidi Nwabuzor, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
