MINNA – The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2014 Nigeria Colleges of Education Games Association (NICEGA) on Thursday said that no fewer than 100 schools would be participating.
The 2014 edition of the games would take place at the Niger State College of Education, Minna, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 9.
Mr Faruk Rasheed, Chairman of the LOC and Provost of the college, disclosed this at an interactive and sensitisation session with the staff of the school on Thursday.
Rasheed, however, said that the committee had yet to access the N5 million approved by the Federal Government for the games
“I know they have approved N5 million which we are still awaiting.
“We have not been able to access the fund, but we will soon access the N50 million from ETF because we have done over 70 per cent of what we need to do to access the fund.
“We have been very proactive; otherwise by now, we would have been thinking of where we are going to host the opening and closing ceremonies,’’ he said.
Rasheed said that the school had received support from the state government and multinational organisations toward the successful hosting of the games.
“We have been able to get support from the state government and some multinational organisations, which have given us a Macopolo bus, an ambulance, four Hiace buses, water tanker and two tractors.
“We are over 95 per cent ready for games,” he said.
The provost gave the assurance that the NICEGA Games would be one of the best.(NAN
