Enugu – The Enugu State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has decried the failure of Rangers feeder team to participate in this year’s state FA Cup competition.
A communiqué issued by the association in Enugu on Monday and signed by its Chairman, Norbert Okolie, and Secretary, Ignatius Okpara, said that the club was officially registered as Junior Rangers but failed to participate.
The communiqué said their failure to feature in the competition incurred the wrath of the organisers, resulting in a fine of N300,000 from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“It is unfortunate that Rangers Int’l FC could not feature its junior team at this year’s FA cup competition and had to spend N300,000 which should have been used for other activities of the club,” it said.
The association wondered why a top flight domestic clubside like Rangers should toy with such an important assignment.
It urged the state government and financier of the club to call its management to order by ensuring accountability at the end of each football season.
The association also called on the state commissioner for youth and sports not to hesitate to probe the action, especially as the club was being funded with tax payers’ money. (NAN)
