LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – The 17th Headies Awards paid tribute to the late Afrobeat star Mohbad, celebrating his profound impact on the music industry and his lasting influence on fans.

A deeply emotional video montage showcased some of his most iconic music videos, accompanied by a narrative highlighting his journey from the streets of Lagos to becoming a significant figure in the Afrobeat scene.

The tribute emphasized how Mohbad’s influence went beyond his music, sparking a cultural movement.

The heartfelt message read: “Some voices are too powerful to fade, and some spirits shine with such brilliance that they leave an unforgettable mark. Mohbad was one of those stars. From the streets of Lagos to the hearts of millions, his music became more than just sound—it was a movement… Rest in peace, Mohbad, your light will continue to shine.”

In a gesture of recognition, Mohbad was posthumously awarded the ‘Best Street-hop Artist’ for his hit song “Ask About Me.” His family—his wife Wunmi, son Liam, and younger brother Adura—were present to accept the award on his behalf, ensuring that his legacy continues to be honored.
