Mararaba – A Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, on Monday granted N150,000 bail each to two brothers charged with criminal conspiracy and causing grievous hurt.
Ike Kelvin, 30, and Ike Marvelous, 25, residents of Calvary Road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, are standing trial on two-count charge.
The Presiding Judge, Hon. Albert Maga, granted the defendants bail with one surety each in like sum who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Maga adjourned the case till March 31 for further hearing.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, had told the court that the crime was reported at `A’ Division Police Station on March 11 by Chukwu Martins of the same address with the defendants.
Adaji said that the defendants and three others were fighting on the said date and the complainant, who is a neighbour, tried to separate them, but to no avail.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said in the process of separating them, the defendants conspired and stabbed him with a knife on his abdomen which inflicted serious injuries on him.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 241 of the Penal Code.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 97 of the code recommended three years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy, while section 241 prescribed two years imprisonment for offenders.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. (NAN)
