Lagos – Two men, Wasiu Adejuwon and Wasiu Tijani were on Tuesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos charged with alleged membership of an unlawful society, Aiye Confraternity.|
The duo, who live in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, are being tried for conspiracy and belonging to an unlawful society.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 20 at about 08:30 p.m. at Ikorodu.
Ihiehie said that on the said date, a team of policemen caught Adejuwon, 19, at Ikorodu garage greeting some of his friends with a cultic song, which led to his arrest.
He said that Tijani, 16, was arrested at Sabo Market, Ikorodu, and when questioned, he confessed to being a member of Aiye confraternity.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 42 (a) and 411 of the Criminal Code, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Kubeinje said that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.
She also ordered that the sureties must produce evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and that their addresses should be verified by the police.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 20 for trial.
