IKORODU – An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court sentenced two commercial bus drivers to five years imprisonment each for abducting and raping a 25-year-old woman on Wednesday.
The convict, Cbibuike Amalu, 31, and Tony Umuaka, 27, were sentenced after they pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of abduction, assault, rape, battery and threat to life.
The Magistrate, Mr B.A Sonuga, in his judgment, said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
Prosecutor Iyabo Johnson had told the court that Amalu and Chibuike, who reside at No. 1, Powerline lane, Ita-Oluwo Ogijo, Ikorodu, Lagos, abducted their victim at Ogijo community on Aug. 10. [eap_ad_1] Johnson said that the accused persons, who forced the woman into their bus, threatened to be killed her with a knife if she calls for neighbours’ attention. The prosecutor said the accused persons took her to their residence and raped her.
He said that the woman was kept in their apartment till the following morning when which Chibuike called her family to inform them of her abduction.
Johnson told the court that Chibuike requested for five million naira to facilitate their daughter’s released.
“They them locked her in the room and went out, but the woman broke the ceiling of the room and escaped through it, and fell into another person’s apartment who then alerted the police,’’ he said.
He said the offence contravened Sections 409, 266, 170, 238 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
