Ado-Ekiti – Two men: Surulere Olalekan, 30, and Oluwatosin Atilola, 30, were on Monday arraigned before Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade of an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cell phones worth N195,000 and assault.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on Feb. 6 at about 6p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the accused stole an Infinix Hot 3 cell phone, one Giones P6 handset, Nokia 202 white handset, one wristwatch and N15, 000 cash, all amounting to N195, 000, property of one Adegbesan Bolarinwa.
The prosecutor said they committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code of Ekiti State, 2012.
Akinwale further alleged that the accused also unlawfully and mercilessly assaulted one Adegbesan Bolarinwa by hitting him with a cement block on his head and also attacked him with a cutlass.
According to him, the accused also committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor appealed to the court that the case be adjourned for some days to enable him study the case file and to assemble his three witnesses.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, while their counsel, Mr Sunday Ochai, applied for their bail, promising the court that they would not jump bail.
The magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the accused persons a N50, 000 bail each with two sureties in like sum.
Ajibade ordered that the two sureties must have verifiable address within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case till March 8 for further hearing.
