Councils of Jigawa on Wednesday said that they immunised 130,356 children against polio in their January rounds of campaign.
The immunisation officers of the councils made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kafin-Hausa as part of their stewardships.
Malam Abdullahi Sarawa, the immunisation officer of Kafin-Hausa disclosed that the council immunised 83,202 children against polio.
Sarawa said that the council recorded over 120 per cent total coverage in the exercise.
He said that the children were administered Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV) and drugs against the five-child-killer disease.
Sarawa attributed the success of the exercise to the support received from the local council, community and religious leaders in mobilising participation of their people.
Alhaji Salisu Falalu, the Zonal Director, Gunduma Health System in charge of Kafin-Hausa, appealed to husbands to allow their wives attend ante-natal clinics to control maternal mortality.
Falalu also advised parents to always present their children for immunisation to protect them against diseases.
Similarly, the Malammadori Local Government Council said it immunised 47,154 children against polio in the just concluded exercise.
Malam Bilyaminu Usman, the Immunisation Technical Facilitator in the area, said this while reviewing the exercise.
Usman said the immunisation coverage exceeded the projected target of 43,000 children.
He also attributed the success to the cooperation obtained from all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders and personnel involved. (NAN)
