Abuja – A Kado Grade 1Area Court in FCT on Wednesday sentenced two men, Henry Bassey, 30 and Monday Samson, 25, to three months in prison each for theft.
The convicts, who reside at Central Area and Wuse zone 6, Abuja, were sentenced for criminal joint act and theft.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convicts an option to pay N10,000 fine each.
Sadiq said the punishment would serve as deterrent to others with similar intentions.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Zeera Doglas, had told the court that one Patrick Peter of No. 15 Nile Street, Maitama, Abuja , reported the matter on Jan. 1, at the Utako Police Station.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Doglas said that the convicts formed common intention, conspired and stole blackberry bold 5 phone valued at N15,000.
She said that the accused stole the phone from the complainant’s car at Zone 2.
The prosecutor further said that they were both arrested at the scene with the phone.
Doglas said the offence contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The convicts pleaded guilty and told the court that this was their first time of committing the crime. (NAN)
