KATSINA – The Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF), an NGO, on Thursday said 2 million Nigerians risked losing their sight due to eye ailments.
Mr Genta Prasad, the Chief Operation Officer of the foundation, disclosed this while marking the World Sight Day in Katsina.
Prasad said the foundation had specialised in providing eye care services in the country.
He said the foundation had performed eye surgeries with 95 per cent success on 5,020 patients from 2012 to date in Katsina. [eap_ad_2] “Majority of the affected persons needed urgent cataract and other forms of eye surgical operation to have their vision restored.
“The post-operative vision test conducted on the patients a month after surgery showed that 95 per cent of them have regained their vision,’’ he said.
Prasad said the foundation had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some state governments to provide eye-care services to their citizens.
He said state governments would under the arrangement provide office accommodation, while the foundation would provide ophthalmic services to the identified persons.
Prasad said would also provided feeding and transport fares to poor patients after being discharged from the centre.
He said the NGO would deploy additional eye surgeons to provide needed service to people.
The Commissioner for Health in the state, Alhaji Mannir Talba, commended the foundation for the services it rendered to people in parts of the country.
Talba, represented by the Director, Public Health at the state Ministry of Health, Dr Abduljaleel Umar, said the state government would support such NGOs to improve healthcare delivery in the state. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
