Ikeja – Two men — Dominic Iwu and Ebuka Okolie — on Tuesday in Lagos got a reprieve as they were granted
N200,000 bail each over alleged theft of a Toyota Corolla car valued at N2.2 million.
The accused, Iwu, 27, a commercial driver and Okolie, 23, a tailor, who both reside at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, are facing a two-count
charge of conspiracy and stealing at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who gave the ruling, also ordered the accused to provide two sureties each as part of the bail
conditions.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 12 at Raji Rasaki Street,
Amuwo Odofin at noon.
He said the two men with others still at large stole a Toyota Corolla car with registration no. FST 734 FA valued at N2.2million
property of the complainant, Mr Frank Chukwuemeka.
“The duo and his gang also rob on Sagamu-Benin-Asaba Expressway.
“While acting on a report, the police mounted surveillance on Benin-Asaba Eoad and they intercepted the Toyota Corolla car.
“On sighting the police, the accused abandoned the car in Isele-Uku Village, Delta, and ran into the bush.
“They were later apprehended by the police with the assistance of Isele-Uku vigilance group,” Emuerhi said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. (Revised)
The case was adjourned until Nov. 19.
