Brazil 2014: Obiano charges Super Eagles to bring World Cup home

ONITSHA – Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Monday urged the Super Eagles to go “all out’’ to bring the World Cup back to the country.

Obiano gave the charge while flagging off the Anambra 2014 Primary Schools Sports Festival at Rojenny Sports Stadium, Oba, near Onitsha.

The governor noted that the Super Eagles have done it before in Africa, adding that they had formidable squad that would achieve that feat at the World level.

“The Super Eagles have all it takes to bring back the World Cup home.

“I am urging them with other millions of Nigerians to go all out and get it for the country,’’ he said.

The governor, who announced that the Post-Primary Schools Sports Festival flag off would come up next month, commended SuperSports International for working in partnership with the state government.

“This partnership will uplift sports and help fish to out talents who will represent the state at all levels,’’ he said.

Obiano said that the primary and post-primary schools sports festivals would help to prepare the state for the forthcoming

19th National School Sports Festival in Calabar, Cross River.

He commended the Commissioner for Sports, Tony Nnacheta, for his preparedness to ensure the state contingent went for a better position this time around.

The governor also restated the resolve of the government to renovate Rojenny Stadium, stressing: “We are going to do more work on the stadium.

“Anambra is the only state with three stadia and as such there is opportunity for sports to grow in the state,’’ he added.

The General Manager of the SuperSports, Felix Awogu, disclosed that 1,000 footballs were distributed to pupils from the 21 local government areas of the state.

Awogu said that the incumbent governor wanted not only to fish out talents but also wanted the pupils to keep fit through sports.

The highlight of the event was the sharing of SuperSports T-shirts by the governor to the pupils. (NAN)
