BIRNIN KEBBI – Football fans in Birnin Kebbi have expressed satisfaction with the Super Eagles’ 2-3 loss to Argentina in the ongoing 2014 world Cup competition in Brazil.
The team, however, qualified for the knock out stage of the competition as runners-up to Argentina with four points and goal difference of zero.
The Kebbi state Director of Sports, Alhaji Ladan Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the team played better in the last group “F” fixture.
“We feel happy that the team communicated well and played as a team.
“I have confidence that the Super Eagles can perform better in the knock out stage of the competition especially considering that the Eagles played under pressure.
“Above all, we will pray for victory in next match,” he said.
Alhaji El Yakub Dabai, a Journalist, said that although the Super Eagles played against a superior team “they have salvaged the image of the continent as African champions’’.
He expressed optimism that the team would perform well in the knock out stage.
“The team deserve to be commended for scoring fantastic goals and the match against Argentina has won support from football fans who expressed disappointment over their performance in previous matches,” he said.
He, however, advised the players to shun distraction especially such complaints concerning the actions of the referee.
Dabai added that in the knock out stage there would be no room for antics and undue delay “as I noticed in our goal keeping in the first half’’.
Malam Umar Ali, a football enthusiast, said the team had relieved fans of anxiety and high blood pressure.
He urged the Eagles to be more determined in the knock out stage.
Malam Usman Ahmed, another fan, promised to sustain his prayers for the Eagles to win the world Cup because they pleased him in their match against Argentina. (NAN)
