YOLA – The people of Adamawa had peaceful Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations on Thursday and Friday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
NAN correspondent, however, reports that the only snag was the restriction placed on movement of the major means of transportation in the towns – tricycles, for security reasons.
However, things went on normally in churches and amusement parks, where large crowds thronged to celebrate the day.
NAN also reports that internally displaced persons in various camps, particularly in Yola, were not left out of the celebrations as groups and individuals went with food and gifts to celebrate with them.
On the peaceful celebrations, Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Othman Abubakar, urged the public to continue to remain calm and vigilant throughout the festive period and beyond.
“ Thank God the celebrations were generally peaceful across the state,’’ Abubakar said.
On rumours making the rounds that a suspected bomber in military uniform was arrested at Dubeli Mosque on Boxing Day, Abubakar said “there was truly an incident but the alarm was false.
“It was a false alarm raised against a soldier in uniform who went to attend Friday prayer in the Mosque but the situation was brought under control after proper investigation’’, he said. (NAN)
