2014/2015 Super 4 Invitational Tournament: Enyimba beat Warri Wolves 1-0

Abuja- Enyimba International Football Club of Aba on Monday in Abuja beat Warri Wolves FC 1-0 to return to contention at the 2014/2015 Glo Premier League Super 4 Invitational Tournament.

In the opening game of the competition’s Matchday 2, the game started with both teams to trying to take advantage of the few scoring opportunities in the opening minutes.

But the match at the mainbowl of the National Stadium was enlivened when Ifeanyi George scored for Enyimba with a penalty kick after 15 minutes.

The excitement was however not sustained as the game wore on with no other goal.

Speaking at the post-match conference, Enyimba’s assistant coach, Friday Christopher, said his players were still match-rusty.

“We came raw because we never had the plan to win due to our lack of training.

“The boys just came back the Christmas and New Year break, and then we got the invitation for the Super 4 Tournament.

“We just came back from the break with no serious training. So, we did not come for the win. It was with luck that we scored the goal,’’ he said.

Christopher however said the competition was an added opportunity for the team to get started and warm up for their first match in this year’s CAF Champions League.

The Aba-based side will play their first leg match in the first round fixture in the continental competition on Feb. 15.(NAN)
