ABIDJAN – The Coach of Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, Herve Renard, on Friday in Abidjan described the team’s group in the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) as difficult.
Renard made the assertion in an interview with newsmen on the fixtures for the AFCON released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“We are in a difficult group, our opponents are all tough sides but we must do our best to come out with good results.
“Our hopes and ambitions are high, we are aware of the expectations of our supporters, we will remain committed to justify the confidence reposed in us,’’ he said.
Renard called on the supporters of the team to support it during the tournament in order to boost the spirit of hard work in the players.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), an Ivorian Sports Consultant, Mamadou Cissé, said no team in the tournament should be seen as an underdog.
“There is no small team at this stage of the competition, no team should be underestimated, so the Elephants must be ready to prove themselves,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Cote d’Ivoire is in Group D alongside Guinea, Mali and Cameroon.
The 2015 edition of AFCON is to take place between Jan. 17 and Feb. 8 in Equatorial Guinea.
Equatorial Guinea won the hosting right, following the refusal of Morocco to host the championship due to fear of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
