LAGOS – Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), an All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Ondo State, on Monday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness in its conduct of the 2015 general elections.
Akeredolu, who was the candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2012 governorship election in Ondo State, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He charged INEC to be transparent in its conduct of the elections and to be fair to all candidates and political parties.
“I think the Independent National Electoral Commission should not be biased and should resist any attempt by politicians to rig the 2015 general elections.
“I believe if INEC wants to conduct a free and fair election, there is nothing anybody can do because the onus lies on the commission to perform creditably,” he said.
Akeredolu described the manner in which the APC conducted its primaries as a “good beginning” and charged party faithful to be united toward the 2015 general elections.
“I think the conduct of peaceful primaries by the party is a good thing and APC has done well in this regard.
“I don’t think there is anybody that is aggrieved because it was a contest and if you lost naturally you should accept defeat.
“We should all come together to support anybody the party has picked as its candidate and we should all go to the elections together,” he said.
The APC leader, who described the party as formidable in Ondo State, said it had undergone a lot of transformation.
He said that in 2015, the party hopes to win substantial seats at the House of Assembly in Ondo and also the majority seats at the National Assembly.
According to him, the party also intends to help its presidential candidate to win majority of the votes in the state during the 2015 election. (NAN)
