ABUJA (SundiataPost) – The son of former Military Head of State, the late General Sanni Abacha, Mohammed Abacha, and frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Kano State, has boasted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will lose in 2015 elections.
He made the boast while fielding questions from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Villa.
He expressed optimism that the state, which was under the control of the PDP, would still return to the PDP as the dominant party in the state.
He said he played a pivotal role in the emergence of the incumbent governor, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwanso, in 2011 (who contested as PDP candidate) when his defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) denied him (Abacha) the opportunity to contest the election.
Abacha said he remains the candidate to beat even as he dismissed the insinuation that the APC’s candidate and the Deputy Governor of the state, Abdullai Umar Ganduje, could leverage on the power of incumbency to win the governorship election.
According to him: “We are hopeful; I wouldn’t want to say too much. I said it before that it was a PDP state; it was a PDP ticket. It was taken or converted or even stolen; whatever you want to call it, so be it. The chances of the PDP are still bright.”
On his chances of clinching the ticket, Abacha said his chances are bright having travelled the same route before.
On the possibility of beating Risqua Murtala (also son of former military head of state, Murtala Muhammed) to clinch the ticket, he said the choice of who rules the state lies with the people, but added that he stands a better chance.
