ABUJA – “The Rescue Group’’, a political pressure group, on Saturday in Abuja called on the PDP to beam its searchlight on its Akwa Ibom chapter ahead of the 2015 general elections.
In a statement issued by its Director-General, Mr Leo Ekpenyong, the group said it was important for the party to ensure that the will of the majority prevailed.
It recalled that at a recent meeting with governors elected under the PDP platform, President Goodluck Jonathan had also advised the governors on this.
The statement said Jonathan had urged the governors to ensure that popular and acceptable candidates were presented ahead of the 2015 polls.
“Essentially, and by implication, President Jonathan is advocating a level-playing field where every aspirant would be given equal opportunity to express his or her interest in the race for 2015,” it said.
The statement said developments in Akwa Ibom regarding the gubernatorial election race were sadly a contradiction of Jonathan’s position.
“In the light of the foregoing, we call on the leadership of the party to beam its searchlight on Akwa Ibom,” it said.
The group called on the national office of the party to ensure that a level-playing ground was put in place for all aspirants at the party’s primary elections.(NAN)
