ABUJA – Mr Simon Dolly, National Coordinator, Youth for Peace and Good Leadership Initiative, an NGO, on Saturday said it planned to hold a national peace conference to address insecurity in the country.
Dolly told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that peace was essential for any meaningful development in the country.
According to him, contributing to peace projects would bring about sanity and political stability in the country.
“Peace is not for individuals alone but for every one of us because if there is no peace in the society there will be no meaningful development.
“Everyone all over the world needs peace, as individuals we must try to promote it,’’ Dolly said.
He said as part of activities in the upcoming peace conference, Nigerians who had performed creditably would be honoured.
Dolly also said that efforts were on to open new chapters at the grassroots, stressing that there were more reported cases of insecurity of lives and property at that level.
He commended governments’ efforts in ensuring peace in various communities in the country.
Dolly advised youths to preach peace and shun violence as they were the agents of change in the society.
“Our target as youths should be to have zero casualty during the forthcoming elections and ensure peace,’’ he said.
Dolly said that there should be a conscious effort to groom the youth, who are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow, instead of using them as political thugs.(NAN)
