OSOGBO – The Speaker of Osun House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, has urged politcal stakeholders in the country not to allow their personal interest to truncate the peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections.
Najeem said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Osogbo on Monday.
The speaker said political gladiators in the country should put the unity and progress of the country above their personal interest before, during and after the general elections.
Salaam said the way and manner some politicians were preaching do-or-die politics ahead of the elections was not healthy for the nation’s democracy.
He said the interest of the masses and the peaceful co-existence of the country should be the cardinal point of the general elections and not politics of hatred and bitterness.
Salaam said politicians should look beyond party politics and work towards what is good for the country.
“The 2015 general elections is beyond party politics. It is about what is good for this country and the image we project to the people outside the country.
“The masses must speak with one voice during the 2015 elections by electing people with the fear of God into power.
“Those who want to remain in power at the expense of the masses and peace of the country must be voted out.”
Salaam also urged the Federal Government to step up its war against the insurgents in the country.
The speaker, who decried the spate of insecurity in the country, said more was still needed to be done to protect the lives of the citizen.(NAN)
