LAGOS – The Association of Professional Printers of Nigeria, on Tuesday in Lagos, expressed disappointment over the low patronage of their services in the 2015 electioneering campaigns.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
The printers told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the trend was very poor when compared with that of the 2011 electioneering campaigns.
The Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the association, Mr Olu Adefowope, told NAN that the trend had kept most printers guessing, with just a few weeks to the end of campaigns.
“We thought the electioneering period will be good for business but the reverse is the case. Most of us are yet to be patronized and we are wondering why.
“We see flyers, handbills, posters, flood Lagos and other states in the country but we don’t know where

the jobs are being done,” Adefowope said.
According to him, it seems some politicians have their printing presses or go to their associates who have unlicensed printing presses.
He said, “In fact, we have been fighting against this act of patronizing unlicensed printers.
“It is stipulated in the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria that no individual, partnership or group should practice printing without being licensed.
“Most of these people are violating this law because we are yet to put the right machinery in place,” he said.
Adefowope, who is also the Chairman of the Somolu Division of the association, added that some politicians go as far as printing their campaign materials outside the country.
He said, “They are enriching other countries at the detriment of the country’s economic growth, whereas there are a lot of printers here doing nothing.
“There is no material that is being printed overseas that they can’t get the same standard and quality from reputable printing presses in Nigeria.”
He urged the Federal Government to check the indiscriminate printing of materials that could be done locally, to boost the growth of local printing presses. (NAN)
