Abuja – Kayode Adeniyi, the Chairman, FCT chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), on Thursday in Abuja assured that the chapter’s 2015 edition of FCT SWAN Week would be memorable.
Adeniyi, while speaking at a media briefing to herald the week-long programme of activities, said the events were going to have meaningful and long-lasting impact on sports in Nigeria.
“This year’s event will be special because of the two seminars, which are on the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the future of the women football league in Nigeria.
“Those two issues are very important, and we are doing this because we are not only reporting sports but also stakeholders. We are part and parcel of the progress in sports, as well as the negative side,‘’ he said.
Adeniyi said the 2015 FCT SWAN Week would begin on Saturday with a “Walking and Jogging’’ programme, because “as sports writers, we must be fit.
“Every day we go out to report others, but we do not have time to take care of ourselves.
“So, we will be starting with a five-kilometre walk for our people to sweat. Then, on Monday, when we are starting with the games proper, we will have competitions in sports such as table tennis, football and draught.
“But right now, we have people agitating that we should also include some other indoor sports event so that every member who cannot do it outdoors can also participate indoors.
