Abuja – FC Taraba of Jalingo on Thursday in Abuja beat Papilo Football Club 1-0 in a Round of 32 fixture in the ongoing 2015 Federation Cup Competition.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match was played at the Area 3 Football Pitch.
The match started with both teams trying to make a break but all efforts made prove abortive as they lost many goal scoring opportunities in the first half.
In the second half, this continued with opportunities missed at every point, and with both teams reluctant to pick up the initiative.
However, Chiwudu Ohawachom broke the deadlock with a strike from inside the penalty area in the 77th minute of the match.
Speaking on their win, Tony Ogharanduku, coach of FC Taraba, said he was excited and happy for his team because they were in the competition to win.
“I am excited that my team won and are moving to the next stage, the Round of 16. We came here to win and that is what we did.
“We hope and pray to God for the story to remain the same all the way,’’ he said.
On his part, Obinna Uzor, coach of Papilo FC said the match was still a good game for his side in spite of the loss.
“The game was a good one, because both teams played professional football and the winners emerged.
“However, we thank our sponsor and owner of the club, Nwankwo Kanu, for the wonderful job of giving back to his community through football.
“Though we lost, but we are happy that it is a process,’’ Uzor said.(NAN)
