SOKOTO – Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Masari on Friday promised to revamp the agricultural sector for optimal performance if elected as governor of Katsina State in 2015.
Masari told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that modernisation of the agriculture sector was the only option available to make the state vibrant.
He said that concentration on the sector through mechanised farming would contribute positively towards the socio economic and political growth of the state.
“Katsina is blessed with vast lands; all that is needed is sound agricultural policies and programmes that would ensure massive production of assorted crops for both local and international consumption,” he said. [eap_ad_2] He said that the state was known for its capacity for agricultural production as all kinds of staple food and cash crops were grown, pledging that he would revamp the sector and tap the abundant opportunities.
He said that youths in the state would fully be mobilised to participate in the agricultural activities of the state.
He said that the provision of modern farming input, availability of fertilisers would form the cardinal objectives of his administration, to move the state forward.
He expressed the optimism that the electorate in the state were clamouring for a political change so that the desired basic infrastructure would be provided.
Masari also pledged to accord priority attention to the education sector by providing atmosphere conducive for learning.
He said that provision of learning materials in both primary and secondary schools would ensure qualitative and sound education.
“We will operate a responsible government that will prepare the room for the younger generations through the provision of sound education.
“We will update our teachers’ knowledge to enable our children to tap from their vast knowledge,” he said.
He also promised to introduce feeding in primary schools, to encourage massive participation of children.
Masari, who is aspiring to the office on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also called for more political tolerance and understanding to ensure the peaceful conduct of all electoral processes.
He said peace was a necessary tool to conduct transparent election and urged party supporters to shun all kind of violence.( NAN) [eap_ad_3]
