KANO – Alhaji Abba Muhammed, the son of the late Head of State, Gen. Murtala Mohammed, on Friday declared his intention to contest the Kano State gubernatorial election on the platform of PDP in 2015.
He made the declaration while addressing a news conference in Kano.
‘’I have decided to declare my intention to seek the highest political office in our great state of Kano on the umbrella of our great party, PDP,’’ he said.
He said that his decision to seek the highest political office in the state was borne out of his desire and commitment to build an equitable state.
Abba promised that if he was voted, Kano State would be the envy of the country and the pride of its citizens.
He said it was necessary for him to participate in the race, to enable him to contribute his quota toward building a state where every Kano indigene would be given the opportunity to achieve the most.
‘’This will be done under the tenet of equity, fairness, justice, peace and unity.”
He said if given the chance to govern the state, he would give priority to agriculture, education, power supply, healthcare and above all, infrastructure development.
‘’We must develop agriculture to the level where we can feed Nigeria and bring back the good old days of ‘Operation Feed the Nation’ but this time, by Kano State.”
He also promised to create job opportunities and increase the budget of the health sector to cater for the medical needs of the people.
Abba called on the party supporters and other stakeholders to give him the necessary support and cooperation, to enable him to achieve the objectives.
Mohammed, the only surviving son of late Gen. Murtala Muhammed, has also inaugurated his campaign office.
Gen. Muhammed was assassinated in a coup led by Lt.-Col. Bukar Dimka on Feb. 13, 1976 in Lagos.(NAN).
