Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, Okeke said that such a debate would afford voters the opportunity to assess the candidates.

“A national debate will be a desirable thing for the contestants particularly the presidential candidates.
“That will be an avenue for the voters to assess them and ask them questions.
“The ones who are currently in government will be asked questions based on their promises in 2011, and how they have fared.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“For those coming in, voters will ask them questions about their past, where they have worked before, positions they have held and from their answers the people will know what to expect from them,” Okeke said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
According to him, voters will hear how they intend to fix the refineries, the power sector and the issue of security, among others.
“We will not accept anyone telling us I will end Boko Haram in 24 hours, without giving us a brief summary of she/he intends going about it,’’ the lawyer said.
Speaking on the guidelines released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Okeke said the commission must monitor compliance.
“The issue really is not about giving guidelines, but about ensuring that they comply with them, and if not let there be punishment for flaunting them.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 11 political parties have submitted names of candidates to contest the presidential election holding on Feb. 14. (NAN)
