A group, the Northern Alternative Forum (NAF), has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election. A statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Chairman of the group, Alhaji Gidado Ibrahim, said the endorsement of Jonathan was based on his achievements in office since 2011. Ibrahim said his group aligns with the president’s transformation agenda and the successes recorded so far. He said: “The Northern Alternative Forum wishes to use this medium to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan on the giant strides recorded by his administration in the past three years and to encourage him not to be distracted. “I wish to state clearly that NAF, a pressure group, completely aligns with the transformation agenda of the present administration which is transforming different sectors of the economy such as health, aviation, road infrastructure, railway, agriculture, power and many others. “It is against this backdrop that we wish to declare our support for President Jonathan in the 2015 election if he so wishes to contest.

On the impeachment of former Gov. Murtala Nyako, Ibrahim said the action would serve as a deterrent to those linked with corruption. “We commend the Adamawa State House of Assembly for resisting all overtures to stand by the truth and speak in unison against corruption and inpunity which culminated in the impeachment of Murtala Nyako. “The development is one incident that has shown that democracy in Nigeria is fully in action. “The action is a reminder to all political office holders to always adhere to the rule of law,” Ibrahim said.(NAN)
