LAGOS – The Lagos State Chapter of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) on Thursday kicked off its state-wide sensitisation rally ahead of the 2015 general elections.
The rally held at the UPN Secretariat in Ikeja area of Lagos.
NAN reports that the rally was well attended by members of the party who turned out in white attires and red caps/gears.
In his solidarity message to the members, Dr Federick Fasehun said that the party would emerge victorious in the 2015 polls.
Fasehun, who had on Wednesday restated that he remained the UPN National Chairman, said that the party may have come on board late but would be successful at the polls.
“The UPN of old is the same UPN of today and we remain committed to the welfare of our people.
“The UPN will maintain its free education policy, housing and food for all when it comes into power.
“We will not associate UPN with rigging or violence hence all hands must be on deck to ensure victory for the party” Fasehun said.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the Lagos State Chairman of the party, Chief Femi Ikuomola urged members to embark on house to house sensitisation of people in Lagos on the upcoming permanent voter card distribution.
The exercise is billed to begin on Nov 7 in the state.
Ikuomola said that without the voter card, people would lose their right to choose their preferred leaders, come 2015.
“Our power to kick out bad leadership lies in our voting ability. Without the permanent voter card, our dreams of emerging victorious in 2015 will be dashed,” he said.
The state chairman announced that the party’s nomination forms for all categories in the 2015 election were out and available to both pioneer and new members.
He assured aspirants of a level playing ground and reassured them that there would be open primaries for members to choose their representatives.
The UPN State Chairman also advised voters, especially traders in the state, to register in their areas of residence to enable them vote during the election.
NAN reports that national officers of the party from across the nation were also at the event. (NAN)
