KADUNA – Kaduna State Government on Friday awarded a N3.51 billion contract for the rehabilitation and expansion of Zaria water distribution network.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the contract was awarded to two firms, Bran and Lubbe Nigeria Water Engineers Nigeria Limited and Mothercat Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Ado Dogo, who signed the contract agreement on behalf of the government in Kaduna, said it would be completed within 24 months.
Dogo said that the water distribution network to be laid in Zaria city, Palladan and Samaru, would cover 201 kilometers.
The commissioner disclosed that the money for the project was secured from the Africa Development Bank.
He said that the huge investment being made into the project was because “water supply provision is very strategic towards creating viable economy for the state.”
Dogo therefore urged the contractors to ensure quality work and timely completion of the project.
NAN reports that work on the Zaria water project, which commenced in 1999, had gulped more than N15 billion so far.(NAN)
