Jalingo – Alhaji Kabiru Jalingo, Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Taraba, has urged the state government to reintroduce the annual sports festival to boost sports in the state.
Jalingo made the call while speaking shortly after being elected as the chairman of the association on Saturday in Jalingo.
He recalled when sports festival was being organised in the state, many young talents were discovered, with some of them representing Nigeria in various competitions.
“I want to appeal to the state government to reintroduce the sports festival to restore the lost glory of sports in the state.
“I appeal to the ministry of education to pay attention to primary and secondary school games to foster sports development in the state,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that others elected as officers of the association in the state were Alhaji Nabilu Balarabe of NAN as vice chairman, Alhaji Musa Umar of Radio Dandakora as secretary and Mr Sule Agyo of Taraba Television, treasurer.
National President of SWAN, Honour Sirawoo, who witnessed the elections, commended the credentials committee for conducting peaceful and creditable exercise.
Represented by Alhaji Sadiq Moyoyo, North-East Zonal Vice President of the association, Sirawoo urged the new officials to redouble their efforts in reportage of sports to foster its development in the country.
