Abuja – Prince Eze Madumere, Imo Deputy Governor, on Thursday said that 2017 budget has the potential of optimising made-in-Nigeria goods for job creation and industrial innovations.
Madumere said this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja while speaking on the 2017 budget.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the budget to pull Nigeria out of economic recession as quickly as possible if properly implemented.
“We will no longer import everything into Nigeria except those that we don’t have comparative advantage on.
“It will promote our foreign exchange (forex) because we will do more of export than import,” Madumere said.
The deputy governor, who commended the presidency for collating a solution to Nigeria’s economic challenges, called for stronger ties between the executive and the legislature.
He described budget as “a fundamental leeway” out of the country’s economic recession, and called for strict implementation.
Madumere said that a collective responsibility of Nigerians in making the budget a success was imperative.
The deputy governor urged Nigerians to stand up for a greater and progressive Nigeria where self-reliance was key.
According to him, the budget sought to address the problem of over dependence on importation.
Madumere saluted the courage of APC-led federal government to chart a new economic course for Nigeria which “we will be proud to call our own”.
