Ughelli (Delta) – Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is expected to grace the centenary birthday of the monarch of Olomu Kingdom, Ovie Layeguen in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Layeguen, whose title is Ogbon Ogoni-Oghoro 1, Ohworode of Olomu, is regarded as the oldest monarch in Delta.
Mr Moses Taiga, the President-General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) worldwide, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Olomu.
Taiga said the Delta governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and some of his counterparts in other states would also attend the weeklong event.
According to him, some traditional rulers from the South-West, South-East, and some emirs from the Northern part of Nigeria have indicated their interest to attend the epoch making event.
He stated that a lot of activities had been lined up for the event, which would hold between Jan. 13 and Jan. 20.
Taiga, who is also the President-General of Olomu Kingdom, said that chieftaincy title would be conferred on 50 notable Nigerians during the ceremony.
“The Vice President, Osinbajo, governor Okowa and some other governors will be at the grand reception of the event on Jan. 20.
“The conferment of chieftaincy titles will last for three days beginning from Jan. 13.
“There will be a novelty match between Warri Wolves FC and Delta Force FC on Jan. 18 at Otu Jeremi, headquarters of Ughelli South.
“There will also be a book launch on Jan. 19 and foundation laying of the permanent Palace of Olomu in Otor-orere community,” he said.
NAN reports that the monarch who is marking his 100 birthday is the Chairman of the Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council.
