Gombe –   Commissioner in charge of Public Affairs, Gombe state Independent Electoral Commission (GOSEIC), Mr Kalagar Kudi, has attributed the delay in the commencement of voting in Saturday’s council polls in the state, to security threat.

Kudi, disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Saturday.

“We received a security report that some politicians were planning to stage an uprising on Saturday, hence the need for us to take action and ensure safety of lives and property.

“The initial arrangement was for voting to commence around 8 am but had to be shifted following the report we received from the security,” he said.

According to him, they had to confirm from Electoral Officers in the 11 Local Government Areas that the situation on ground was conducive before voting could commence.

The commissioner said that voting commenced in most polling units at about 12.30pm, adding that because of the delay, it might reach tomorrow before the results would be released.
